Important Notice on "Overhang"

When designing a trailer or implement, consideration must be made towards the overhang.

The overhang is classed as the distance from the hub face to the chassis ("PF" on drawing below).

The general rule is:

"As the overhang and/or the speed of travel increases, the carrying capacity decreases"

For example: A 100mm Colaert axle with a overhang (PF) of 300mm has a carrying capacity of approximately 13000kg at 40 km/h, but the same axle with a overhang of 600mm has a approximate carrying capacity of 7000kg. That is 6000kg less!

But.... a 100mm Colaert axle with a overhang (PF) of 300mm has a carrying capacity of approximately 12200kg at 60 km/h. Increasing the speed from 40 km/h to 60 km/h has decreased the carrying capacity by 800kg.

IF IN DOUBT, PLEASE ASK

The graphs for calculating the overhang are located in the front of the ADR and COLAERT General Catalogues.
